The former New York Giant signed a new deal with the Chicago Bears on Thursday. The 30-year-old receiver was released earlier this year after a string of injuries plagued his last two seasons with the Giants. Last season, Cruz totaled 39 catches for 586 yards and 1 touchdown. This was an obvious decline from his earlier seasons with the Giants. Cruz told his opinions of the release on an interview on WWPR-FM.
"I felt it all year long. Halfway through the year, I’m balling; the other half I’m not getting the ball. And you’re just like, ‘What’s going on?’ It was like, ‘OK, I see what’s happening. They don’t want me here anymore.’"
Cruz seems to be part of the Bears' wide receiver heavy offseason. The team signed Markus Wheaton, Kendall Wright, and Reuben Randle during free agency. The Bears are hoping Cruz can replace the void left by Alshon Jeffery. We will have to wait until training camp begins to see if Cruz can return to his old form.
